Cutting of roadside trees flayed

Nagercoil: The Conservation of Nature Trust here has urged the Government to take action against those who cut roadside trees particularly the Department of Highways in Kanyakumari district.

The chairman of the trust R.S. Lal Mohan told The Hindu that contractors cut a huge banyan tree of about 60 years old in the junction of M.S. Road and Henry Road near Dr. William’s Hospital here recently. When the Revenue Divisional Officer and the District Forest Officer were contacted, it was learnt that no proper permission was obtained from them, said the chairman.
