Bomb attack on library, CPI(M) activist’s house

KANNUR: The police on Friday conducted raids in sensitive areas where sporadic incidents of clashes and bomb throwing were reported. In the raids, weapons, including four swords, were recovered from Koppalvayal near Thalassery.

Tension escalated when a house of a Commumist Party of India (Marxist) activist and a library controlled by the party came under country bomb attack in the early hours of Friday. The house rented by CPI(M) activist Pramod at Arayakkool, near Thalassery, was damaged in the bomb attack allegedly by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activists.

The Yuvajana Library and Reading Room at the Chunkathvayal were damaged in the bomb attack by suspected RSS activists at around 5 a.m.

The attacks were a sequel to the assault on an RSS worker Vigil (21) at Arayakkool late night on Thursday by alleged CPI(M) activists.

Children hurt

In another incident, two Adivasi children were seriously injured when an explosive device went off when they accidentally came into contact with it at Aralam. According to the police, the blast occurred at around 12 noon when they were playing with an `object’ covered with jute yarn.

The injured were identified as Anju (9), daughter of Balan and Sheela, and Vishnu (7), son of Narayanan and Seetha, from an Adivasi colony near Valayamchal at Aralam. The injured were rushed to a hospital at Thalassery. The palm of Anju was nearly severed in the blast. The police said the explosive was suspected to be a crude device. Such explosive devices were being used in the area to ward of wild boars, the police said adding that an investigation was on into the incident.
