This Day That Age
His Highness Maharaja Sri Jaya Chamaraja Wadiyar Bahadur, Governor of Mysore, observed that the realisation of the latent Ananda (bliss) through the medium of musical sound was to help the ordinary man to attain moksa, while inaugurating on December 21 the 31st conference and series of concerts, held under the auspices of the Madras Music Academy at a specially erected pandal on the P.S. High School grounds, Mylapore. His Highness said that an aesthetic experience lasted only a short time, but nonetheless it was worth having, since it helped them, though temporarily, to attain the highest plane of Ananda. Sangita Ratna T. Chowdiah, who has been chosen as this year’s president of the conference, in his address, said that to maintain the sublimity and charm in our music, the musician must try to lead a pure and saintly life; he must be a good scholar and remember that he was a student throughout his life.
