Corrections and clarifications

In a report “Prabakaran was injured in air raid: military” (“International” page, December 20, 2007), the first two paragraphs said that LTTE leader Velupillai Prabakaran was injured in an air raid on November 26, but subsequent paragraphs gave the date as November 28. B. Muralidhar Reddy clarifies that both the dates are correct. The first paragraph refers to the claimed first air raid on November 26, while in paragraph four it is said that the Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) carried out another raid on the same target on November 28. The report, as it originally appeared in a Sunday newspaper, The Nation, had said that Prabakaran was injured in an air raid on November 28. The President and the Defence Secretary had confirmed subsequently in a conversation with The Hindu that the SLAF had carried out two air raids on two separate high profile targets in Kilinochchi on November 28. It was for the first time on Wednesday night that the Government claimed that a raid injuring Prabakaran was carried out on November 26, and that the same target was hit again on November 28.

In a report “Lee coasts to victory in South Korea poll” (“International” page, December 20, 2007), the accompanying Reuters photograph (and not AP, as published) was captioned “President-Elect: Lee Myung-Bak and his wife Kim Yoon-Ok casting ballots in Seoul on Wednesday.” A reader said it looked as if they were using a single ballot-paper and wondered whether it was a photo-op. The original photograph shows two distinct and separate ballots!
