VISAKHAPATNAM: Mumbai won the Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy beating Maharashtra by two wickets in a thrilling final of the all-India under-22 tournament at the Port Stadium here on Friday. It was the maiden final for both teams and Mumbai won with 2.2 mandatory overs to spare on the final day. Siddharth Chitnis might have missed a century by the narrowest of margins but he played a major role in Mumbai’s win along with Ankit Chavan who proved his all-round abilities with a six-wicket haul that followed an unbeaten 53 (3x4, 1x6). Maharashtra, which gained a 69-run lead in the first innings, resumed its second innings at 137 for eight and was all out for 213. A 56-run stand for the ninth wicket between Ajinkiya Joshi (35, 3x4) and Aditya Dole (19 not out) helped boost the Maharashtra total. Ankit Chavan added one wicket to his previous day’s haul of five and left-arm spinner Ahmed Nizam claimed three wickets. Needing 283 in 73 overs, Mumbai took up the challenge. Chitnis (99, 7x4, 1x6) added 76 runs for the third wicket with captain Sushanth Marathe (48, 5x4), 78 with Aditya Tare (41, 1x4, 2x6) for the fifth and 46 for the next wicket with Chavan. When Maharashtra claimed two quick wickets, Chavan and Rohan Raj (9) gathered 31 crucial runs for the eighth wicket and Chavan secured victory for the team in the company of Ahmed Nizam. The scores: Maharahstra 277 and 213 in 95.1 overs (Deepak Shilamkar 53, Ankit Chavan six for 43) lost to Mumbai 208 and 283 for eight in 70.4 overs (Siddharth Chitnis 99, Ankit Chavan 53 n.o., Sushanth Marathe 48, Aditya Tare 41, Aditya Dole five for 56). — Special Correspondent
