Vidit set to defend title

New Delhi: Overnight leader and defending champion Vidit Santosh Gujarathi maintained his lead at the end of the 10th and penultimate round of the Parsvnath 21st National under-13 chess championship 2007 in progress here at the Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra by drawing his game with Ankit R. Rajpara of Gujarat.

In an uneventful game, both the players employed the safety first approach and signed a peace treaty in just 15 moves. Vidit now has 9 points and is half a point clear of his nearest rival. He just needs a draw in the last round, which will be held tomorrow, to defend his title. In the 11th and final round, he will play against the second placed Pranav Shetty, who at 8.5 points is trailing Vidit by just half a point.
