Show-cause to Keshubhai, Kashiram Rana
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The BJP on Friday took the first step of disciplinary action, which could lead to expulsion, against four senior Gujarat leaders — the former Chief Minister, Keshubhai Patel, and MPs Kashiram Rana (Surat), Vallabhai Kathiria (Rajkot) and Somabhai Patel (Surendranagar).
BJP general secretary Vinay Katiyar said he was issuing show-cause notices to them on behalf of party president Rajnath Singh, who had received reports about their anti-party activities from the State unit, and also based on their statements in newspapers, television channels and some advertisements.
Mr. Kathiria and Mr. Somabhai Patel have been suspended from the party’s primary membership and asked to send their response within 10 days. Sources in the party indicated that they were almost certain to be expelled.
Mr. Kathiria has been close to the former Home Minister Gordhan Jhadafiya, who was earlier thrown out of the party and has actively campaigned against it.
Mr. Keshubhai Patel and Mr. Rana were asked to explain within seven days why they made certain statements that were calculated to harm the party’s poll prospects.
They were told that the statements and advertisements issued in their names amounted to anti-party activity. The party would like to get their response before some action is taken.
