Thiruvananthapuram: It is the era of turning eco-friendly and coir has not been left behind. Eco-friendly mats and carpets with attractive designs made from coir and jute for daily use have been launched by Foam Mattings (India) Ltd (FOMIL), a State government undertaking. The products have been launched in attractive gift packets so that one can present it for special occasions. It is for the first time that gift packets had been launched in the coir sector, says chairman of Foam Mattings K. R. Bhageerthan and managing director S. Retnakumaran. Being taken up as part of the efforts to diversify the local market, the initiative will provide employment to the workers. The products were launched by Minister for Devaswom and Cooperation G. Sudhakaran by handing over a gift packet to Nisha Vinod, Director of Manimanglam Natural Concept, in the State capital on Friday. The products that have been included in the gift packet include step mat, bedroom carpet, bathroom mat, kitchen carpet, drawing room carpet and fridge carpet. The mats have latex backing to ensure longevity. A set of two mats in the Standard packet costs Rs.175, Classic (Rs.300; three mats), Deluxe (Rs.600; six mats) and the Super deluxe gift packet having six mats comes for Rs.1,300. All the gift packs will be available through the outlets of Triveni stores of Consumerfed, service cooperative societies, cooperative bank stores and KSIE emporium. Those who need gift packs in bulk can approach Fomil, based in Alappuzha.
