MANGALORE: All India Beary Parishat will launch a year-long research on Beary community, language, literature, and culture in 2008. Addressing presspersons here on Friday, the partishat’s office-bearers said that the there were more than 20 lakh Bearys in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Madikeri, Shimoga and Bangalore districts in Karnataka, Kasargod district in Kerala., and other States and abroad. But no research had been done on the community yet, they said. The parishat had decided to launch the research at a function on Monday at Hotel Moti Mahal here. It will be inaugurated by B.M. Farooq, president of Bearies Welfare Association, Bangalore. A seminar, to be organised on the occasion, would feature talks on Bearys’ culture by experts, he said.
