Government has sufficient stock of DAP fertilizer

CHENNAI: The State Government has sufficient stock of DAP fertilizer and there will not be any shortage of DAP for December and January.

According to an official press release, the Chief Minister on November 23 wrote a letter to the Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Ram Vilas Paswan requesting him to allot 77,000 tonnes of DAP to the State for December and January.

The State will receive 24,200 tonnes from Jordan and the ship carrying the consignment is arriving at Tuticorin Port on December 20. The stock would be distributed to farmers immediately.

For January, the State requires 33,750 tonnes. Of this 17,500 tonnes would be procured from Indian Potash and would be distributed. Arrangements are being made to distribute another 15,210 tonnes through SPIC, Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers and IFFCO.

23,990 tonnes distributed

For the current month, 23,990 tonnes had been distributed in districts till December 18 as against the requirement of 45,000 tonnes, the release added.
