Jayaraman, at the annual convocation of the Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts of the Kalakshetra Foundation, heaped praise on Kalakshetra as one of the finest institutions of excellence in Indian music and dance. Mr. Jayaraman, who was the guest of honour on Friday, said the contribution made by Kalakshetra in promoting the traditional classical dance and music forms was immeasurable. He said many achievers in the Indian cultural arena were alumni of Kalakshetra. Mr. Jayaraman commended the Kalakshetra director Leela Samson for adding new vistas and dimensions in the propagation of Indian fine arts. Prof. Raghunathan of Kalakshetra appealed to students who had passed out in flying colours to continue to pursue what they had learnt at the institution. Kalakshetra Foundation member-secretary R.V. Ramani said Kalakshetra, under the tutelage of Ms. Samson, had earned more laurels without losing the moorings of the Indian cultural ethos. Kalakshetra registrar Kuppan and principal Lalitha Rukmani spoke. A total of 54 students received diplomas, degrees, and awards.
