In orbit, an astronaut mourns mother

Houston: Astronaut Daniel M. Tani’s 90-year-old mother died in an accident this week, but he has no way of getting home till late January. He must grieve from over 320 km away in orbit, aboard the international space station.

Tani’s mother was struck and killed by a train in Lombard, Illinois, on Wednesday. The police said the woman, stopped behind a school bus at a railroad crossing, decided to drive around the vehicle and the lowered gate. — AP
