‘CJ 15 is one of the best horses in the country’ I dedicate this win to my parents: Arun
MAJESTIC SHOW: It was a dream day for Arun Maribashetti as he won two gold medals in the National equestrian championship in Chennai on Friday. CHENNAI: For us, CJ 15 is just a name, rather a racing horse. For Arun Maribashetti, it’s a part and parcel of his family. The 25-year-old mechanical engineer from Mysore has been riding the equine for close to seven years. The 13-year-old CJ 15 has been partly responsible for Arun winning three consecutive titles. It did its job perfectly on Friday too to guide Arun to his fourth straight National title in the advance grade normal event of the Panasonic National equestrian championship at the Mohite Stadium, OTA, St. Thomas Mount, here. Arun then came back to win the jumping advance grade puissance. He shared the first place with Lt. Col. Deep Ahlawat (RVC&C) on Mirza. In the jumping advance grade normal competition (Round ‘B’), Arun, in his two rounds, had a total of 12 penalties to Havildar Girdhari Lal’s 24. The Puissance requires riders to cross fences which include what they call “red wall.” With great difficulty, Deep Ahlawat (Mirza) and Arun cleared the red wall in the first jump-off (the height of the wall was raised to 1.47m). However, in the second jump-off, both the riders decided to withdraw from the race preferring to rest their horses. The judges agreed, and both were declared joint winners. “CJ 15 is one of the best horses in the country. I have been ready it for nearly 10 years. It’s like a member of our family. “Today, if you see, it helped me at times when I didn’t do my job really well. “It stretched itself diagonally to cross the fences,” said Arun, who was initiated into the sport by his father S.G. Maribashetti when he was seven. “I dedicate this win to my parents,” he added. The results: Open jumping six bar (SIEC): 1. Kapilesh Bhati (ACC & S, Ahmed Nagar) on Golfer, 2. Maj. Rohit Dagar (61st Cavalry) on Taqdeer, 3. Dav. Bhoom Singh (61st Cavalry) on Susan, 4. Aditya Krishna (CEA) on Guatemala Hog. Jumping advanced Grade Normal (NEC): 1. Arun Maribashetti (Karnataka Mounted Police, Mysore) on CJ 15, 2. Hav. Girdhari Lal (ASC Centre and College) on Bazz, 3. Aditya Krishna (CEA) on Guatemala Hog. Jumping advance grade Puissance (NEC): 1. Arun Maribashetti (KMP, Mysore) on CJ 15, Lt. Col. Deep Ahlawat (RVC&C) on Mirza, 3. Hav. Gridhari Lal (ASC &C) on Bazz, 4. Nb Ris Malchand (RTS & Depot, Saharanpur, U.P.)
