Try for settlement, court tells nursing school

Staff Reporter

148 students moved the court, wanted to take examination

‘Allow students to write final year examination’

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday orally asked a city-based nursing school to sort out any problems it had with its students and also asked it to ensure that students are allowed to take up third and final year diploma examinations in general nursing and midwifery.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice Ashok B. Hinchigeri made the observation when it was dealing with an application by 148 students of the school seeking the return of their original certificates and a no-objection certificate from the institution to enable them to study in some other institution.

Urging the school and the students to sort out the mess, the Bench, in its order, said since the city-based school did not have recognition, the management was willing to let them appear for examination from another of their institutions which had recognition by the Indian Nursing Council and the Karnataka State Nursing Council. The students told the court that the new institution from which they would be permitted to take examination was recognised only till January 10 while their examinations were slated to be held from February. The Bench asked the school and the authorities to ensure that students did not suffer and that the new school from which they would like to take the examination had affiliation.

The Bench said that nursing students could practise outside the State only if an institution possessed suitability certificate from the INC and recognition from the KSNC. It adjourned hearing on the matter to January 10.
