MCA admission: call for enquiry

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: The JCC-BARD (Joint Co-ordination Council – Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi), comprising the Association of University Teachers (AUT) and the Tamil Nadu Government Collegiate Teachers’ Association (TNGCTA), has expressed concern over the piquant situation of MCA students of Nehru Memorial College in spite of their admission through the Single Window System (SWS) after taking the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test.

Calling for conduct of a full-fledged enquiry to bring out the truth with regard to the admissions to MCA and other courses at the College, president of JCC-BARD Ku. Kannan, in a statement issued here on Friday, demanded equitable punishment to the guilty.

Any minor deviation from SWS must be viewed seriously and concomitant problem must be nipped in the bud.

Merit and roster system must be followed to prevent commercialisation of higher education, the statement said.

Mr. Kannan said admission of students through SWS, especially for MCA and MBA, was made by the Tamil Nadu government in fulfilment of the long-pending demand of the AUT and the TNGCTA representing the aided and government college teachers respectively in Tamil Nadu. SWS must be adopted from the next academic year for admissions in all courses in aided and government colleges.

Students admitted through SWS must be protected in all respects and as a special case the students of Nehru Memorial College must be accommodated as regular students in colleges of their choice immediately.

A special examination should be conducted for them for the first semester, the statement said.
