Proud moment for trainee officers

Staff Reporter

Camaraderie: Rear Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command, interacting with officer trainees and families after the passing-out parade at the Ezhimala Naval Academy in Kannur on Saturday.

EZHIMALA (KANNUR): It was a day they will cherish as they passed out after completing 20 weeks of intensive training at the INS Zamorin at the Naval Academy here.

For the 99 trainee officers who included 23 women and six personnel from the Coast Guard, the passing out parade held here in the morning on Saturday marked the successful completion of the training. Rear Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command, complimented their parents for guiding their wards to choose the profession of sea farers.

The trainee officers were told by Rear Admiral Lanba that they would undergo further training at other professional training establishments. “You are beginning your voyage or discovery,” he said while addressing them after reviewing the passing out parade. He told them that they belonged to an elite organisation that was one of the cornerstones of the national security. He reminded them of their privileges and responsibilities.

“Your privileges are vastly different from those of the corporate world,” Rear Admiral Lanba said adding that the best parts of their career were camaraderie of their fellow officers, loyalty of the men they commanded and adventures and challenges of the environment in the sea. He also urged their parents to be very understanding of the ethos of the service and be supportive.

He complimented the trainees for their smart turn out at the parade, good bearing and drill. He also felicitated the best trainees.

Commodore Suresh Laxman, Commanding Officer, INS Zamorin, received Rear Admiral Sunil Lanba at the Parade Ground.
