Mumbai: The Bachchan family on Saturday bade a tearful farewell to Teji Bachchan, who passed away after a prolonged illness. The funeral pyre was lit by son Amitabh Bachchan. Several dignitaries, including the former Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, industrialist Anil Ambani, director Pehlaj Nihlani and actor Vivek Oberoi were present at the cremation. Mr. Shekhawat met the Bachchan family and expressed his grief. “I know the Bachchan family very well. Teji Bachchan was a lady with great virtues, who managed her family very well. Her values are very much instilled in her family,” he said. The funeral procession started at 10 a.m. from Mr. Bachchan’s Juhu bungalow “Pratiksha” and reached the Ruia Park cremation ground after nearly an hour. Teji Bachchan died on Friday at the age of 93. — PTI
