CUTTACK: Anadi Sahu, a former BJP leader who has recently joined the revamped NCP in Orissa has offered to provide shelter to controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasrin. Taking exception to the curbs imposed on the writer and the manner in which she was hounded out from Kolkata, Mr. Sahu, also a former IPS officer, announced that he would adopt Taslima as his daughter and ensure her safety as long as she stayed in the country. “I would like to adopt Taslima as my daughter and keep her in my house here like my three other daughters,” Mr. Sahu said here on Saturday. A former Congress MP, Mr. Sahu was once a popular police officer of the State and was known for his upright and daring tenure as Cuttack SP. Terming the restrictions on the writer nothing less than “house arrest”, Mr. Sahu said we couldn’t gag a writer like this in a democratic country. “Restricting her freedom of movement is like curtailing her creativeness,” he said.
