Shops should display signboards in Telugu
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The first name on sign-boards of shops and commercial establishments in the State will hereafter have to be in Telugu.
Shop-owners can indicate names of their establishments in other languages, like English, Hindi, as second/third options.
The Labour Department has taken this decision following discussions between its officials and those of the State Official Language Commission. The commission said in a note here on Saturday that the department had agreed not to issue or renew licences to shops and establishments unless they used the first name in Telugu on sign-boards/name-boards.
A commission official said a shop-owner seeking licence/renewal through an eSeva centre would have to submit a declaration that the name-board was already being displayed in Telugu.
