CPI(M) district meet from Dec. 27
Staff Reporter
‘Bhooporatam’ to continue
GUNTUR: Guntur city will for the first time host Guntur district-level Communist Party of India (Marxist) conference (Mahasabhalu) from December 27 to 29 at the Sri Venkateswara Vignana Mandiram.
The party will continue its `Bhooporatam’ irrespective of the Congress party stand on this till all the eligible poor get a bit of land to construct their own house, said K. Kaladhar, convener of the district level conference.
The party had been able to organize several agitations including six major ones in different parts of the district for getting Government land allocated for the poor. Some 120 persons were in jail during the agitations and 625 party workers and the poor were victims of ‘police brutality’ in the form of lathicharge during democratic agitations, district party secretary D. Rama Devi told reporters.
The city had hosted the State-level conference in 1985, but had never organised the district-level conference, she said and expected a large gathering for the public meeting on day one during which a massive rally would also be taken out. The State-level conference would be organised in Hyderabad in February, she added.
State leaders were also expected to take part in the three-day conference.
