I am not accountable to individuals: MP
HYDERABAD: Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal on Saturday said that he was accountable to people, media and the Opposition parties and not individuals, who made comments about his performance as an elected representative.
Addressing a press conference here in the wake of certain remarks made by his father-in-law and former Union Minister P. Upendra on his performance, Mr. Rajagopal claimed that ever since he made his maiden entry into Lok Sabha, he had fulfilled 85 per cent of the promises made to the electorate. “The remaining 15 per cent promises are at the implementation stage,” he added. Playing down the adverse remarks made against him, the Congress MP claimed that he had not entered politics as a successor to anybody. “In 2000 I met Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and later joined the Congress party in the presence of the then CLP leader Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and PCC president M. Satyanarayana Rao,” he remarked.
Political reasons
He said the Congress party first planned to field him from Eluru parliamentary constituency but later shifted him to Vijayawada due to political reasons. “I will not hesitate to support any body, who is fielded from Vijayawada parliamentary constituency. This is not an individual’s fiefdom,” he said replying to a question. He also said that he was not keen on contesting the Assembly elections.
