Search begins for Grand Slam winner

NEW DELHI: It was a festive atmosphere as hundreds of kids went through the selection procedure of the Apollo Tyres Mission 2018 Challenge at the DLTA Complex here on Saturday.

With an investment of Rs. 100 crore over the next 10 years, Apollo Tyres, in collaboration with Mahesh Bhupathi and his company Globosport, is making an earnest attempt to groom a Grand Slam singles champion by 2018.

Coming after similar selection events at Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata, the Delhi leg drew an overwhelming response from the kids in the age group of 6 to 14 years.

With the national selection of 10 kids from the overall regional pool slated for Sunday, Mahesh Bhupathi expressed his satisfaction.

From Rohan Mehra in the five-year age group, Apekshita Alkesh, Jennifer Luikham, Paramvir Singh, Ayesha Khosla, Simran Kaur Sethi, Rohan Punj, Sumit Nagal, S.K. Mukund and Saurabh Singh in the 14-years section, the select 10 had the distinction of getting the nod in the Delhi leg, from among 740 players who flooded the courts.
