AIIMS interim director issues orders

To restore powers of deputy director and others

NEW DELHI: All-India Institute of Medical Sciences interim director T. D. Dogra on Saturday issued orders to restore powers of deputy director (Administration) Shailesh Kumar Yadav and reinstate A. Sampath as Head of the Department of the Institute’s Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgery Unit. The orders follow a decision taken at the AIIMS general body meeting on Thursday.

Several other orders including restoration of the Institute’s Registrar to his post, appointment of a consultant public relations officer and re-examination of failed Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe candidates are among the decisions taken during the general body meeting.

‘Welcome move’

Welcoming the latest move by Dr. Dogra, a senior Institute official said: “There were several orders that had been pending -- despite having been passed by the Institute’s general body -- when Dr. P. Venugopal was the director. These included orders that were passed early this year. We are glad that the Institute’s administration has been pushed back into the right gear with the issuing of these orders. We welcome the move and hope that the pace at which work has started in the Institute carries on.”

Stating that Dr. Venugopal had pushed back the implementation of several key recommendations passed by the Institute’s general body, he added: “We are now looking forward to a more streamlined and hands-on approach to issues relating to the Institute. The Institute’s administration has been in a virtual deadlock for a while now and we hope we will be able to work our way through the backlog.”

Removing hurdles

Commenting on the situation, Mr. Yadav said: “There are several decisions which were passed at the general body meeting which was held recently and we are looking seriously into the recommendations made by the group. We are also working at removing any hurdles in running a well-oiled Institute administration.”
