ENRICHING EXPERIENCE: A section of gathering at the inaugural of CORPEVE 07 organised by TIME in association with KIET, Kakinada, in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. VISAKHAPATNAM: It is not just acquisition of knowledge but its proper application for the benefit of society that’s important, according to retired IAS officer Gopala Krishna Naidu. He was addressing students of various engineering colleges at a mega event ‘CORPEVE 07’ organised by TIME (Triumphant Institute of Management Education) in association with KIET (Kakinada Institute of Engineering and Technology) at the Port Kalavani auditorium here on Saturday. The retired bureaucrat held the students spellbound with his thought-provoking ideas and advice to the students. “When you are attentive, you can concentrate. Through observation you can learn, memorise and recall. Memory is the seat of imagination,” he said. He quoted elaborately from ancient Indian wisdom like the Vedas and Upanishads. Mr. Gopalakrishna Naidu had a piece of advice for HR managers from various companies who participated in the event. “You (HR managers) should make people (new recruits) inspired to aspire to achieve their goals,” he said and added: “They are not recruiting you (students) for what you are today but for what you can be tomorrow.” Principal of AU College of Engineering Allam Appa Rao, who participated as chief guest, said that when it came to IT, the whole world was looking at India’s talent and advised students to sharpen their soft skills apart from mastering their subject of study. He recalled that Andhra University was one of the earliest universities in the country to start a computer engineering department. The syllabi and curriculum was being changed to keep the students abreast of the latest developments in the subject. He felt that there would be high demand for computer professionals during the next four to five decades. Head (HR) of Tata Consultancy Services, Hyderabad, Srikanth Surampudi, said that the IT industry was looking for candidates who could turn out to be better leaders in future and were able to communicate properly but that in no way meant communication in English language. Chairman of KIET P.V. Viswam said that the event was organised with the objective of providing a platform for interaction between industry and students. Directors of TIME J.V. Murthy and Arunav Choudhuri also spoke. Mega quizA mega quiz was conducted as part of the meet and M.V.G.R. College of Engineering, Vizianagaram, qualified for the final round to be held at KIET, Kakinada, on January 26, 2008. As many as 200 teams participated in the preliminary rounds and MVGR, GITAM, GIET and GITAM made it to the semi finals. The team for the final round was selected from among them.
