Souvenir seized in Srinagar
Srinagar: A souvenir, One Million Euro, released by European community nations to commemorate the adoption of the common currency, was seized from a man on the city outskirts on Saturday. Its authenticity was being verified, the police said.
They found the limited edition collectable — amounting to Rs.16.486 million if converted on international rates but priced at $18.50 when it was released — during routine checking at Laterbal-Pampore, about 15 km from here, from Mushtaq Ahmad Dar. Dar, who lives in Mugalpora in Pulwama district, was taken into custody and the police were probing how and where he got the note. Police said it has not been authenticated so far. With flags of the 15 member nations displayed on it, the One Million Euro banknote was released by the Naples Bank Note Company, U.S., to commemorate the adoption of Euro as the legal currency in 2002.
