BANGALORE: From the ground to the air is indeed a long way. There are a lot of backend operations before that flight you catch takes off, and they involving tens of thousands of people and state-of-the-art technology. One such enterprise is the Mumbai-based Sheorey Digital Systems Ltd., which has designed and developed Airline Resource Management System (ARMS), and which is aiming at expanding its airline customer base outside India. Currently, the company has six of the seven new airlines in the country as its customers. Speaking to The Hindu on the occasion of Sheorey opening its ARMS Development and Support Centre here, its Managing Director Vivek Sheorey said the company had Deccan, Kingfisher Airlines, Blue Dart Aviation, SpiceJet, GoAir and Paramount Airways as its customers. While Sheorey has submitted its bid to provide the support system for Air India, it was focussing on airlines in South East and West Asia where the aviation industry was booming, he said. ARMS is a current generation, state-of-the-art Information Technology System — a unique combination of an Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP), Decision Support System (DSS), Workflow Automation Solution (WFA), Executive Management Information System (EMIS) and Integrated Document Management System (IDMS) called InfoPrompt. Coming from aviation background, Mr. Sheorey said the airline industry in the country did not have a comprehensive and full-fledged software package for various ground handling facilities. While the ERP system could not be adapted to the industry in its existing form, software was available for individual segments in the industry. That was when he along with several like-minded persons hailing from aviation background decided to come out with a comprehensive package. “Except ticketing, we have developed software for almost all ground handling operations for civil aviation,” he said. ARMS effectively addresses the extremely critical and cost-sensitive nature of commercial airline operations. It is a cost-effective airline-wide solution; modular, scalable and highly user-customizable. It truly serves as an effective force-multiplier; boosting productivity, efficiency, and profits. The main sub-systems of ARMS include commercial and planning; flight operations; airport services; crew management; engineering and maintenance; logistics and inventory management; human resource management and integrated financial accounting and revenue management. Outside India, Cebu Pacific Air in Manila is Sheorey’s first international client where ARMS is under implementation. Dolphin Air (Sharjah) has signed in and Ryan Air (Dublin) is finalising agreements. Mandela Airways, JetStar, Air Arabia, Jazeera Airways, Oman Air and QuikJet are at the discussion, trials or finalisation stages.
