Chess
CHENNAI: The introduction of a national championship for schools, making the National ‘B’ championship a Grandmaster norm event and reducing the number of entries for the National ‘A’ event are some of the key decisions taken by the All India Chess Federation at its Central Council meeting held here on Friday. The AICF President, N. Srinivasan, chaired the meeting. The national schools championship will be a new addition to the chess calendar and details are being worked out, according to D.V. Sundar, Secretary, AICF, in a press release. Following are the states which will host the various championships to be held in 2008: National ‘A’: Karnataka; National ‘B’: Goa; National Women ‘A’: Delhi; National Women ‘B’: Kerala. National U-25 men: Bihar; National U-19 (boys and girls): Andhra; National U-17 (boys and girls): Puducherry; National U-15 (boys and girls): Karnataka. National U-13 (boys and girls): Tamil Nadu; National U-11 (boys and girls): Gujarat; National U-9 (boys and girls): Delhi; National U-7 (boys and girls); Maharashtra; National rapid (Men): Andhra.
