Stifling of democratic struggles: CPI(ML)

George Jacob

KOTTAYAM: The recent hype by authorities, over Maoist threat to Kerala following the arrest of the Maoist leader Malli Raji Reddy from Angamaly, was aimed at suppressing democratic struggles going on the in the State in the name of fight against Maoists, K.N. Ramachandran, national secretary of the CPI(ML) has alleged.

Speaking to The Hindu here on Saturday, Mr. Ramachandran said this was part of a national-level strategy to stifle the democratic struggles against the neo-liberal policies being implemented by the Central and State governments. “The same policies are being implemented, suppressing the struggles against them using the poly of ‘War Against Terror’, ‘Fight against Naxals’ and now fight against the ‘Maoist threat,’” he said. “With all the mainstream political parties including the CPI(M) joining the neo-liberal bandwagon, we are the only effective Opposition to take up the cause of the large number of people from all sections of society who are being marginalised on account of the globalisation process,” he said.

Now they got a ploy to move against any struggle against exploitation in the name of fighting Maoist threat, he said. The worst hit would be the fledgling struggle for land by the Adivasis and Dalits, he added.
