This Day That Age
The University Grants Commission has accepted the main recommendations contained in the report of the English Committee headed by Pandit H.N. Kunzru. The Committee, which was appointed in 1954 to examine the problem of medium of instruction at the university stage and recommend ways and means of securing an adequate proficiency in English, submitted its report to the Commission last month. The Commission considered the report at its meeting held in New Delhi on December 4. The Commission has generally accepted the report.The Commission noted that under the present arrangement in Madras this provided for seven years of teaching of English and that this might be commended to the other States.
