dated December 24, 1957: ISI Convention

Inaugurating the third Indian Standards Convention on December 23 at the Senate Hall, Chepauk, Mr. Morarji Desai, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, said that at the present time when food and agriculture assumed importance in the country, which faced a ten per cent food deficit, the work of the Indian Standards Institution could help considerably in meeting the shortage by prescribing proper standards not only for handling and preserving food grains but also for better methods and intensification of farming. Mr. C. Rajagopalachari, who also addressed the Convention, emphasised that for selling Indian goods abroad, they should be of good and uniform quality and there should be consistency between sample and execution.
