SCCL to focus on welfare, safety

KOTHAGUDEM: The Singareni Collieries Company limited (SCCL) will focus more of its attention to welfare and safety this year, according to Ch. Krishnaiah, Chief General Manager here Sunday. Addressing the Singareni Day celebrations at the Prakasam Stadium in the coal town, he said that ‘one family, one vision and one mission’ would be the slogan with which the company was intending to surge ahead by stepping up production as well as productivity to meet the competition in the market.

Bright future

Greeting the coal miners and their families on the occasion, he said Singareni Collieries company which could make its mark in the competitive market, had a bright future. The CGM (Personnel) M.Gangi Reddy said in his address, that health and education were as important as production and hence both the departments enjoyed greater importance in the company. Moves were afoot for providing improved medical facilities to coal workers in all its mines. Eighty percent of its production would cater to the need of power projects.

The first piece of coal mined in 1889 at Singareni near Yellandu in Khammam District. Starting with 50,000 tonnes of annual target, now the company had reached the level of setting a target of 40.5 million tonnes for 2007-08. The organisation renamed as the Singareni Collieries Company Limited on Dece, 1920 and registered in London Stock Exchange. Since Dec. 23, 2003 the Singareni Day was being observed in a big way.

As a part of the celebrations several stalls were put up highlighting delopment activities of the company and its exploration activities, welfare activities, medical and health, activities of the Singareni Seva Samithi and Singareni Employees Wives Association. M. Seshukumara Reddy, CGM, (CP&P), K. Radha Krishan, CGM (Education), IRK Rao, CGM (Vigilance), Ch. Satyabanu Krishnaiah, SEWA president, KGM Area, Zareena Ziauddin, SEWA president, others attended.
