‘Fabricate low-cost material’

DAVANGERE: Shyamanur Shivashankarappa, former MLA and veteran Congress leader, said there was an urgent need to fabricate low-cost building material so that even middle class and lower middle class people could fulfil their dream of owning a house.

Inaugurating the ‘Buildtech’ exhibition, an exhibition of low-cost building and other allied materials, here on Sunday, Mr. Shivashankarappa said that as the cost of construction material had gone up considerably in recent times, people were reluctant to build their own houses.

In view of this, it was essential that engineers, architects and companies, industries and governments should concentrate on introducing cost-effective building materials.

Commissioner of Davangere City Corporation Pranalinga Shivasali said that engineers had a key role in beautifying any city or town and he appealed to the engineers to guide their customers to abide by all rules prevailing. He said engineers had to impress upon their customers to provide lung space all around the building and engineers should discourage people from encroaching public area or constructing any structures on drains.

Engineers could effectively restrict unauthorised constructions and help in beautifying any city or town, he said. He said that a large number of houses were built haphazardly.
