Tributes paid to P.V.

HYDERABAD: Rich tributes were paid to former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao on the occasion of his third death anniversary here on Sunday.

Governor N.D. Tiwari, Assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy, Legislative Council Chairman A. Chakrapani, Ministers -- K. Jana Reddy (Home), N. Raghuveera Reddy (Agriculture) and G. Vinod (Labour) -- State government’s advisor on public affairs K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao and a host of senior Congress leaders paid homage to the departed leader at PV Ghat here.

They recalled the services of Narasimha Rao to the State as well as the country in his capacity as Chief Minister and Union Minister and Prime Minister.

Land reforms

Mr. Jana Reddy reminded that it was Narasimha Rao who initiated land reforms in the State which had become an important issue on the agenda of several political parties now.

He rendered invaluable services to the Congress whenever it was in crisis.

Mr. Suresh Reddy said Narasimha Rao was also the architect of economic reforms in the 90s that triggered rapid growth. The time had come for the people to re-dedicate themselves to development and to bridge the rural-urban divide that was the main theme of the reforms initiated by the former Prime Minister, the Speaker said.
