VISAKHAPATNAM: Six persons, including four of a family, were killed in a major road accident at Boravanipalem near Bhimili on the National Highway on Sunday afternoon. Of the seven persons travelling in the Maruti van involved in the accident, five died on the spot. According to Bheemunipatnam Cirlce Inspector Devi Prasad, the families of Shipyard employee Sunkara Venkata Appa Rao and K. Trinadh, a Visakhapatnam Steel Plant employee, were returning to the city from Kumili in Denkada mandal of Vizianagaram district. Trinadh was the maternal uncle of Appa Rao’s wife. Trinadh who was driving the van hit the wall of a culvert while trying to avoid two pedestrians and the ill-fated vehicle overturned. Trinadh, 45, Venkata Appa Rao, 43, his wife Chinna, daughter Renuka, 6, and Bolli Srinivas, a friend, died on the spot. Appa Rao’s four-year-old son and his father were admitted to KGH and the latter succumbed to his injuries. The two pedestrians were also rushed to the KGH but were said to be out of danger. One of them suffered a fracture in the leg. Labourers killedRajahmundry Staff Reporter writes: Meanwhile, five labourers were killed and eight persons were injured in an accident that occurred on National Highway-5 near Vemagiri centre on the outskirts of Rajahmundry on Sunday. According to the police, the accident occurred on Sunday morning when a brick-laden lorry on which about 10 labourers were travelling, hit a high tension tower on the the National Highway. According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the lorry lost control after the vehicle developed a puncture and swerved to the right, burying the labourers under the bricks. The deceased were identified as Vuppaluri Yesu (45), Muppidi Raju (20), Boora Daniel (20), Eeta Mariyarao (33) and Anantavarapu Nageswara Rao (41). They belonged to Bommuru and were proceeding to Burri Lanka village to erect electric towers.The injured were rushed to GSL Medical Hospital first and then shifted to the Government Hospital later. The condition of the driver and cleaner is critical. Owing to the impact of the accident, the Bommuru-Nidadavolu 132 KV hightension tower was struck down and power supply to different areas in the district was affected.
