HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Bandaru Dattatreya on Sunday urged the State Government to implement the recently promulgated ordinance with retrospective effect and order a fresh investigation into the incidents at the Government Maternity Hospital and Niloufer hospitals here. In a letter to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, he requested him to also appoint a team of experts to oversee infrastructure and medical facilities in all premier Government hospitals. He said the recent strike by junior doctors once again exposed the Government’s failure in effectively handling serious issues. “Unless or until people and organisations take the extreme course of protest, your Government doesn’t seem to understand the seriousness of the problems.” “No rule of law”Stating that the doctors would not have gone on strike had the Government acted firmly in the Niloufer incident, he said the strike proved that there was no rule of law and the police was “completely politicised.” “Eschew fascism”He said that any attempt to politicise the police was inimical to democracy and urged Dr. Reddy to refrain from “politics of favour and fascism.” He also wanted him to concentrate on developing infrastructure in Government hospitals.
