Maoists attack railway station in Chhattisgarh
Raipur: Maoists on Sunday attacked a railway station in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district, looted all the communication equipment kept there and held the staff hostage briefly, the police said.
“About 100 Maoists cordoned off the Kamalur railway station, about 400 km from here, and took hostage all the staff members,” officers from Bhanshi police station, under which Kamalur falls, told PTI on phone. They did not harm any staff.
Traffic affected
The incident affected rail traffic from the station, officers said.
They took away one set of wireless walkie-talkie, three pieces of magnet phones, two pieces of control phones, one set each of WLL phone and signal torch, among other equipment, police sources said.
It was the third major operation carried out by the Maoists in Dantewada, a naxal stronghold.
On December 16, 105 Maoists escaped from the Dantewada district jail along with 200 other inmates. On Thursday, Maoists killed 12 policemen and looted their sophisticated weapons in a forest. — PTI
