The ‘DAV Mela’ organised by DAV Public School in Berhampur on Sunday. BERHAMPUR: A mela for children at DAV School campus and a youth festival ‘Winterfest 07’ in Berhampur University campus kept the festive mood in the city. The ‘Winterfest 07’ ended with a cultural show that continued till midnight on Sunday. For the children of the city the DAV School authorities organised a day- long interactive event - Children’s Mela. Although it was organised by the students and teachers of the DAV school, it was open for all children in the city. According to Deep Gambhir, the principal of the DAV school, they had tried to provide a day of fun and frolic to the children with some colour traditional village fair. Like any other fair there were a variety of stalls selling goods that were of interest to the children. There were stalls where one could test one’s skills of brain, brawn and concentration to win small prizes. Everything that attracts the tongue in a fair from golgappas to chaat was available. A local magician added colours of magic to the fair at the stall. Every stall was being managed by the students and the teachers of the institution. Small children had much fun seeing teachers selling coloured balloons to them. A special section Olive ridley nesting on Ganjam coast was also there. As the campus of the school is located far from the city hustle, the colourful stalls with the hills as the backdrop gave it distinct look of fair. On the stage at the mela venue, students performed non-stop from morning till evening entertaining the audience. Their performances included small skits, dances, musical shows and mono-act. The Winterfest 07 of the Berhampur University ended with Rashmita Mohanty of Rourkela being honoured as the ‘Winter Queen’.
