Collector to review panchayats’ expenses

For overall rural development in Ariyalur

ARIYALUR: The district administration has taken up a double-pronged strategy for bringing about economy in the administration of panchayats and also avoiding wasteful expenditure, for achieving an effective and overall rural development.

To achieve this end, the district administration has planned to review the receipts and expenditure being incurred by each and every village panchayat, in all numbering 201 and spread over six panchayat unions in the district.

The Collector, V.M. Xavier Chrisso Nayagam, in the first leg of this endeavour, assessed the revenue and expenditure being incurred by Wallajah Nagaram panchayat near here on Saturday.

Maintenance of records

He advised the panchayat president, Deiva Ilayarajan, to ensure proper maintenance of the records stipulated by the State Government.

Efforts should be made to collect the outstanding dues without any delay.

The Collector specifically advised the panchayat staff to introduce economy in power consumption and supply of drinking water.

Number of houses verified

He verified the number of houses in the panchayat with that of the family cards. Steps should be taken simultaneously for augmenting the revenue and towards eliminating wasteful expenditure, he said.

Pointing out that the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (AGAMT) was being implemented in 41 panchayats in the district during the current financial year, the Collector appealed to the villagers to take maximum advantage of the scheme, which was a catalyst for achieving overall rural development.

Mr. Nayagam said that complete verification of all the records would be conducted during the current financial year, at the end of which a special training would be imparted to the panchayat presidents on stepping up the revenue and bringing down wasteful expenditure.

The Assistant Director of Panchayat Muthusamy and the Assistant Director (Audit) Kuppusamy, were among those who accompanied the Collector during the review.
