Minister inspects flood-hit areas
CHENNAI: Dairy Development Minister U. Mathivanan inspected flood-affected areas in Tiruvarur district on Saturday and sanctioned Rs.17.50 lakh as compensation.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the Minister said 82 houses had been fully damaged and 692 others partially, in the district. A sum of Rs.2,000 had been given to each house owner for repair.
Mr. Mathivanan would apprise the Chief Minister about the loss of crop on 50,268 hectares and the condition of 602.9 km of road that had been inundated. Relief work would be taken up immediately.
“About 25 relief camps have been set up in various parts of the district. Food and shelter has been provided to over 10,000 people. Officials of Public Works, Revenue and other departments are monitoring the situation to prevent further loss of life or damage to property,” he added. — Special Correspondent
