Taslima issue

Over a month after the Bangladeshi writer, Taslima Nasreen, was forced to leave Kolkata, the Central Government has reportedly told her that she can either continue to stay in Delhi or leave the country (Dec. 21). What type of decision is this? Is this the way to treat a guest? Taslima’s writings have always reflected the truth. She has raised her voice against what she feels is wrong. If she gives up writing, it will be a big loss to us.

It is sad to see the misplaced support being given by intellectuals to Ms Nasreen. The anger among Muslims against her is understandable.

I have read Dwikhandito and I can say with certainty that she has made incorrect and malicious statements against the Prophet. It is unfortunate that the Indian government is keen on letting her stay on.

Sikander Khan,

New Delhi

One must understand, particularly if he or she resides in a foreign country, that he or she must respect the sentiments of the people of that country. In India, communal passions are already running high and are being fanned by many outfits. Do we need Taslima to add to them?

G. Chandrasekaran,
