BERHAMPUR: The inhabitants of the city would welcome the coming New Year with a cultural festival ‘Ganjam Mahotsav’, which will start from Dec 27. It would be festival to promote folk dance, folk music and culture of Ganjam district in an entertaining way. This festival would be held at the Berhampur ITI ground, said the members of the organising committee of this festival at a press conference here on Sunday. Bhagaban Sahu, the convener of the festival informed that a special pavilion on events of historical importance that have occurred in Ganjam district and its famous personalities would participate in the festival. The State Sangeet Natak Akademi and the Eastern Zonal Cultural Center have sponsored troupes of folk artistes from different parts of the country to perform in the festival. Some cine and TV stars from Orisas and Andhra gave their consent to add glamour to the festival of traditional art forms. The festival would begin on Dec 27 with the lighting of a torch at Kulada, the birth place of poet Kavisamrat Upendra Bhanja. A l cultural extravaganza has been planned for December 31 to welcome of the New Year.
