NAKREKAL (NALGONDA DT.): For the first time in the recent history of the Congress, the important functionaries of the party representing BC, SC, ST and minority communities met here and unanimously appealed to the party high command to give them their due share in the electoral politics.

“Allocate us Assembly and Parliamentary tickets as well as party positions in proportion to the percentage of our population,” they asserted in the form of a resolution adopted at the end of a marathon meeting held at a function hall. The DCC president Sunkari Mallesh Goud and the Congress MLC Neti Vidyasagar called for the meeting in the wake of reports that actor Chiranjeevi was planning to take a plunge into politics.

“We have been subjected to injustice all these years. Wecarry the party flag in thick and thin but the upper castes enjoy the political fruits,” Mr. Mallesh Goud told The Hindu after the meeting. He declared that such meetings would be held at all important places in the district to give a voice to the “hitherto highly neglected” sections.

Several leaders gave vent to their feelings and frustrations. In another resolution they asked the party to allocate half of the 12 Assembly and two Parliamentary seats to the BCs, SCs, STs and minorities in the coming elections
