Plot to kill TDP leader foiled

A murder accused and his three associates were arrested by the city police on Saturday.

Five swords were also recovered from them.

Syed Wahed of Borabanda and his associates Mohammed Ibrahim and Tabrez Khan both from Kalapather and Syed Amzad from Murad Nagar were nabbed at Borabanda when they were trying to commit a robbery for arranging money to purchase firearms. The gang wanted firearms to kill a TDP leader residing in the city.

TV repairer killed

A television repairer was stabbed to death by two motorcycle-borne miscreants at Al-Hashmat Colony in Humayunnagar on Saturday midnight.

Shaik Majid Hussain (29), a resident of Meraj Colony in Tolichowki, was returning home after closing his shop when the miscreants intercepted him on the pretext of seeking some information. Then they overpowered Majid and attacked him with knives killing him on the spot. Humayunnagar Inspector S. Vinod Kumar said the reasons behind the murder were yet to be ascertained.

Student hangs to death

An eighth-standard student hanged herself to death at her house at Jaipuri Colony in Nagole on Saturday. N. Sinduja (15) ended her life in a depression after her mother Vasantha allegedly admonished her for not helping in the household work, according to police.

Auto driver commits suicide

An auto rickshaw driver, who attempted suicide by immolating himself at his house at Tondupally village in Ranga Reddy district on Thursday, succumbed to burns at Osmania General Hospital on Saturday. The police said Mohd. Mahbub (34) killed himself after a quarrel with his wife over a trivial issue.

House burgled

Thieves struck at an electrician’s house in Hayathnagar early on Sunday and decamped with gold jewellery and cash, all worth over Rs.2.5 lakh. They entered the house of G. Shravan Kumar by breaking open the rear door and stole gold ornaments weighing 20 tolas and cash.

The robbery came to light when one of the family members woke up around 3.45 a.m. and found that the valuables in the almirah were ransacked, according to the police.

Statue vandalised

Mild tension prevailed at Vanasthalipuram on Sunday after miscreants vandalised the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of a shopping complex.

Leaders of various political parties later staged a demonstration demanding stern action against the accused persons. The leaders took out a rally and submitted a memorandum to the Vanasthalipuram police.
