Five die in accidents

TAMBARAM: Five people were killed in separate road accidents near Tambaram since Friday night.

Two men were killed when the fish cart they were riding overturned on the Madambakkam Main Road on Sunday afternoon. The victims, Logu and Muthulingam, both in their twenties, belonged to Bharath Nagar, Selaiyur . They were on their way to Madambakkam to pluck tender coconuts. They had hired the fish cart and were proceeding to a coconut farm. Logu, who was riding the vehicle, was negotiating a curve when he lost control. While Logu died on the spot, Muthulingam succumbed to injuries at a hospital a little later.

Earlier in the day, a 35-year-old man died on the spot when the motorcycle he was riding rammed a stationary lorry on Chennai Bypass. A resident of Perumaattunallur near Guduvanchery, Arogya Das was working in a star hotel in the city and was returning home after work. As visibility on the Chennai Bypass was low, the victim had not noticed the parked vehicle. The accident took place around 5.30 a.m.

On Saturday evening, a 19-year-old woman died after she was knocked down by a speeding lorry. The victim, S.Angel, was a resident of Medavakkam. She was heading to her parents’ house in Ottiyambakkam and was travelling with her father on a motorcycle. The speeding lorry hit the motorcycle and both of them fell. While Angel, four months pregnant, died on the spot, her father is undergoing treatment.

On Friday night, a youth was killed when he came under the wheels of a Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus on the Velachery Main Road in Rajakilpakkam.

N. Raman, working in a private company, was returning home in Rajakilpakkam on a motorcycle when he was hit by the government bus. He fell and came under its wheels. The Tambaram Traffic police are investigating the accidents.
