HAVING A BALL: Aliya Das Gupta came up with a sterling show to win the jumping fault and out event in Chennai on Sunday. CHENNAI: The capability of women in the equine sport was clearly established in the jumping fault and out competition for young riders of the Panasonic National equestrian championship at Mohite Stadium, Officers Training Academy, here on Sunday when three of them bagged the honours. Aliya Das Gupta, Nadia Haridass and Sanjana Medappa won the first three positions; all train at Embassy International Riding School, Bangalore. Interestingly, all the three produced a fine display clearing the stipulated 10 fences within the specified period of 75 seconds. Aliya, astride Haniball, did one better by clearing five extra jumps in a time of 77.10 seconds.
Chennai Equestrian Academy’s Ratan Kumar on King’s Academy clinched the first place in the jumping fault and out juniors’ event. The 18-year-old, a student of SRM University, pipped Nitish Kumar on better timing. The results: Jumping fault & out (young riders, 18-21 years, NEC): 1. Aliya Das Gupta (EIRS) on Hannibal, 30 points, 77.10s; 2. Nadia Haridass (EIRS) on Mr. Evergreen 30, 78.64; 3. Sanjana Medappa (EIRS) on Ruskin (open time). Jumping fault & out (juniors, 14-18, NEC): 1. Ratan Kumar (CEA) on King’s Academy, 30, 77.36s; 2. Nitish Kumar (RVC Centre and College, Meerut) on Mascot, 30, 78.66; 3. Raj Kumar (RVC Centre and College) on V/o Karishma, 29 (open). Jumping children-2 (10-12, SIEC): 1. Yash Deep Ahlawat (RVC C & C, Meerut) on Mascot; 2. Rishab Metha (Lawrence School) on Adith; 3. Rahul Nair (ASC Centre and College, Ban) on Pralay. Dressage (junior): 1. Adam Oberoi (EIRS) on Slash, 63.75 per cent; 2. Adam Oberoi (EIRS) on Rebellion, 62.81 per cent; 3. Prithvi Singh (ASC Centre and College, Bangalore) on Veer, 62.32 per cent.
