Satya, Reena win

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Satya Prakash retained his title in the Mawana Sugars Indian Open marathon, clocking two hours 17 minutes 53 seconds here on Sunday.

Bengal’s Reena Das won the women’s title timing 3:00:17.

The 30-year-old Armyman, from Maharashtra, clocked a time better than the Olympic qualification mark of 2:18.00, but the event was not one of those designated by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) as a qualifying race and hence he will have to wait for another chance to make it to Beijing.

Reena Das also had little opposition while winning the women’s event. The defending champion, Leelamma Alphonso, was absent and it was left to U.P.’s Indresh Dhiraj to provide whatever challenge that could be there to the Bengal woman.
