Modernisation of canal bunds at Rs. 548 crores

Kothapeta (East Godavari): Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah has said that for the first time the State Government has decided to strengthen and modernise Godavari canal bunds in both Godavari districts at a cost of Rs.548 crores.

Works launched

The Minister launched these works at Ganti village near Kothapeta mandal headquarters on Monday and did Bhoomi Pooja.

He said that in East and West Godavari districts they were going to modernise 402 km of Godavari bund. The Congress Government had created history by modernizing these bunds.

The Minister said that for only Kothapeta constituency they had allocated Rs.103 crores out of Rs.548 crores.

He said canal modernisation works had not been taken up during the past 25 years and previous government had not allocated any funds for irrigation works.

Delta works

The Minister said that along with canal modernisation the department would take up delta modernization works of Godavari and Krishna rivers.

Foundation laid

The Minister laid the foundation for Gowthami right bank works taken up at a cost of Rs.30 crores.

Kothapeta MLA Chirla Jaggi Reddy, former MLA Chirla Somasunder Reddy, Amalapuram MLA Kudipudi Chittabbai and others participated in this programme.
