CHENNAI: Leaders of various parties greeted people on the eve of Christmas. Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi said the need of the hour was to alleviate the sufferings of the poor and weaker sections of society. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa hoped that Christmas would foster the qualities of sacrifice, service-mindedness and love. TNCC president M. Krishnasswamy said Christmas celebrations would encourage everyone to take a pledge to work towards further strengthening the unity and integrity of the nation. Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss asked people to wage a crusade against terrorism. Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko urged everyone to take a vow to create a casteless society. The Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, said, “Let there be universal brotherhood and peace.” Tamil Maanila Muslim League president S. Sheikh Dawood, Puthiya Tamizhagam president K. Krishnaswamy State general secretary of the Tamil Nadu Janata Dal (U) D. Rajagopalan and State general secretary of the Janata Dal (S) C. Balaraman, extended their greetings.
