“Simulators ‘in thing’ in armed forces”

Special Correspondent.

DGOS underscores need to cut costs

HYDERABAD: Director-General, Ordnance Services (DGOS), Lt. Gen. D.D.S. Sandhu, on Monday said that he saw a greater role for automation with increased use of simulators for every possible application.

“We are already well-known for our professionalism but we need to improve and innovate constantly. With shrinking budgets we cannot fritter away money. We need to cut costs while improving performance,” he said while interacting with presspersons on a two-day farewell visit to the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) Centre here.

Simulators were the in-thing today in every technical course, Lt. Gen. Sandhu said. It made sense to use simulation for training personnel in different technical applications, be it driving a tank or piloting a plane, he said, adding that this way, mistakes would prove less expensive, both by way of physical and fiscal considerations.

Earlier, he was received by Brig. Somen Brahma, Centre Commandant. Along with him, the DGOS paid respects to martyrs of the Corps at the War Memorial in a solemn ‘Yadgar Parade’. Lt. Gen. Sandhu said he had spent 40 years and six months in uniform, apart from the three years in the National Defence Academy and a year in the Indian Military Academy.
