Record sale by Madurai Aavin

Highest sale in the State in terms of litres per day made on December 13


MADURAI: The Madurai unit of Aavin has set a new record in sale of milk (in term of litres per day), bettering its own previous record of posting the highest sales figures in the State.

The Madurai Aavin, known as Madurai District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, on December 13, 2007 registered a sales of 1,99,158 litres of milk bettering its previous record of 1.85 lakh litres, General Manager (in-charge), K. Thangarajan, said and added that the it was the highest sales figure in the State.

Madurai Aavin is one among the 17 units in the State and comes under Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation.

The popular milk brand ‘Aavin’ is governed by Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited.

The commercial activities of the dairy department such as procurement, processing, packing and sales are taken care of by the federation.

Mr. Thangarajan said regular camps were conducted to cover all 80,000 cattle, which come under the unit’s region, which included Madurai and Theni.

Marketing activities were given a thrust.

If sales were to drop drastically in any sales depot, the reasons would be immediately analysed to correct the situation, he said.

Collector S.S. Jawahar, who is the Special Officer of the unit, said: “We are trying to improve human resource in the unit and make the staff result-oriented through various administrative measures.”

Plant capacity

Other measures included increasing the capacity of the plant and setting up of a mega dairy at an estimated cost of Rs.40 crore.

It would have a procurement capacity of five lakh litres.

“We have taken steps to sustain the present growth in the long run,” he added.
